12 CANCER SUPPORT: PROGRAMS, GROUPS & THERAPIES GENERAL CANCER SUPPORT 4th Angel is a patient and caregiver mentoring program that offers free, one-on-one support to cancer patients by phone. The 4th Angel is paired as closely as possible to patients with respect to diagnosis, gender and age. Each mentor can provide healthful and positive strategies learned from their own experience. 4th Angel Mentoring Program is part of The Scott Hamilton CARES Initiative, a national non-profit organization. (866) 520-3197 4thangel.org GENERAL CANCER SUPPORT Imerman Angels, a non-profit organization, partners individuals seeking cancer support with a "Mentor Angel". These 1-on-1 relationships inspire hope and offer the chance to ask personal questions and receive support from someone who is uniquely familiar with the experience. Mentor Angels can lend support and empathy while helping cancer fighters and caregivers navigate the system, determine their options and create their own support systems. All materials are free and include the Cancer Support Community's Frankly Speaking Series™ booklets as well many other cancer specific books and information for the whole family. The first step is to reserve your space to attend a New Member Meeting, our general orientation to the Club. Here you will hear about our history, our mission, our philosophy, and our program. You will also have an opportunity to introduce yourself and to meet others who are impacted by cancer—including family members and friends. The second step is to meet with a clinician, at your convenience, to decide how you want to be involved at Gilda's Club Nashville by creating your Customized Membership Plan (CMP). This process enables you to shape and structure your social and emotional support by making the program choices that suit you best. The New Member meetings are offered twice a week, typically with a daytime and an evening option, please call for dates and times. It is a patient/ family educational series that focuses on living with cancer. It is offered on-line at cancer.org. Please call for details, (800) 227-2345. KID SUPPORT™ SERIES Children and teens with cancer, or those who have family members with cancer, join together to learn age-appropriate information about cancer and cancer treatment. The evidenced-based curriculum includes discussion of feelings and emotions, addresses common cancer-related misconceptions, and teaches relaxation techniques and other positive coping skills. Parents/guardians meet in a separate support group at the same time. This series is free of charge.
